The Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) is pleased to announce that Capcom, a major video game publisher with a studio in Vancouver has joined ESAC as its newest member. Capcom was founded in 1983 and is a global leader in developing, publishing and distributing video games. With offices located in Osaka, Tokyo, California, England, Germany, France, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Korea, Capcom Vancouver has defined its own identity in Canada.
“We are excited to finally have Capcom join ESAC” said Jayson Hilchie, President & CEO of ESAC. “We have been having discussions for a while now and the time is right for them to come on board. They’ve had huge success in Canada with their original franchise Dead Rising and they have set the bar high for future developments” he added. “Capcom sees the value in working collaboratively as an industry and sees ESAC as the vehicle to facilitate this.”
In 2010, Capcom acquired a Vancouver-based software development house, Blue Castle Games. Since then, the company has transformed into the city’s third-largest games studio with over 250 active employees.
“Joining ESAC was a no-brainer for Capcom”, said Joe Nickolls, Studio Director of Capcom Game Studio Vancouver. “We are confident that the association will support our company’s efforts and continue to effectively represent the Canadian video game industry to governments”, he continued.
The hit zombie survival franchise Dead Rising has come to define Capcom Vancouver as an innovative and legendary studio.
