CALL FOR PHOTOS FROM REAL CANADIAN GAMERS

Entertainment Software Association of Canada (ESAC) is launching a call for gamers, from coast-to-coast-coast, to share photos of themselves playing video games. Gamer refers to any Canadian who plays video games. This term is not limited to professional video game players.

Each person submitting a valid entry for RCG 2020 is automatically eligible to win one (1) gift card for $250 CDN for one of the following gaming platforms:  Xbox, PlayStation or Nintendo (your choice).

Why do we want to hear from Canadian gamers?

ESAC wants to showcase what real Canadian gamers look like and use these images to celebrate playing video games as a valuable and engaging activity. We will be collecting hundreds of photos gamers; if you’re game, your photos will be used to promote the positive impact of video gaming on the lives of Canadians.

If selected, Canadian gamer photos may be used by ESAC for various campaigns and communications including the Real Canadian Gamer campaign; gamer photos may be used on ESAC’s social channels as well as in ESAC communications material. There are no monetary or in-kind incentives being provided for participants. Participation in this project is for bragging rights only.

Canadian gamers whose submissions are selected for use by ESAC will be advised via email.

#RCG2020 PHOTO CONCEPT

Create a composite of all images submitted in the shape of Canada. Images used for the composite may also be used separately.

PHOTO INSTRUCTIONS

Consider your submissions as mini art projects which showcase what real Canadian gamers look like. This is your moment to share your favourite pastime with millions of Canadians.

  • One common angle that must be submitted is a medium close-up (subject may or may not have game controller in the shot – if the game controller is in the shot, then the subject must be holding it as though they were playing a game). Gamers may submit up to 10 photos.
  • Avoid images that include the video game itself as the focal point – it’s okay if you can see some live game action incidentally, but it should not be prominently displayed or featured. We want to see you in action – not the game.
  • Consider different lighting configurations – front, back, natural, screen.
  • If you’re a parent who plays video games with their children, consider a wide angle shot of you and your family playing a video game. Include side screen, controllers.
  • If you are taking a front angle shot, consider looking into the camera.
  • If you are taking a side angle shot, look at the screen as you would during video game play.
  • Have fun with this process! This is your time to share what video games mean to you through your very own image!
