Gaming environments that encourage sportsmanship, camaraderie and mutual respect benefit players and the diverse range of gaming communities. In addition to avoiding negative behaviour, companies are implementing systems and tools that identify and promote positive gaming behavior. By integrating research and new design approaches to their practices, companies can increase the level of positive communication within the gaming spaces.
These efforts seek to identify the types of player behaviors that create a thriving gaming community and to encourage those behaviors among players. Incentive systems can be used to reward players for positive behavior, such as helping each other, and encourage players to promote others’ good behavior—like sportsmanship.
